Philosophy
- Philosophy was introduced as a Hons. Subject in this College in 1919
- The number of General students at present is around 150
- Many students have secured First Class in recent University Examinations
- The Department has its own seminar library to help students
Philosophy was introduced as a Honours Subject in this College in 1883. Other than being one of the oldest Departments in this part of the country, it has a rich heritage of eminent and distinguished teachers including Nalini Kanta Brahma, Jatil Sarkar, Tarashankar Bhattacharyya, Amiya Kumar Majumder, Ramaprasad Das, Mihirbikash Chakravarty, Chandrasekhar Debnath, Modusudan Moitra, Pranab Kumar De, among others. The alumni of the Department has also contributed to the propagation of learning in many colleges, Universities and other spheres.
The performance of the present students is also worth mentioning. Many students have secured First Class in recent University Examinations. They have, also been active in many other extra-academic activities.
Besides College Library which is one of the best in this region, the Department has a seminar library to help students. The Department runs with full capacity of students, around 30 students in Honours in each year. The number of General students at present is around 150 which shows their interest in Philosophy.
