Law Library is the pride of this college and attached to an institution engaged for dispensation of social justice through a profession known for legal acumen. It is a repository of living systems of authority as well as reason-systems which change and grow from day to day. And built to cater to the academic needs to the law students, faculty and legal practitioners.
It is on record that well-known Bengali Writer like, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay (Writer), Akshoy Ch. Sarkar (Writer), Dwijendra Lal Ray (Poet & Dramatist), Muhammad Shahidullah (Linguist) were students of this Department. Many illustrious teachers have adorned this Department. They are Kalipada Sen (Ishan Scholar), Dr. Bhabatosh Datta, Prof. Baburam Prasad Banerji, Prof. Syamal Kumar Chatterji, to name a few. The Department has a consistently good academic record every year a couple of First Classes are secured in Honours.
Teachers of the department are actively engaged in research work in different areas of Bengali Language and Literature. At present, each Honours class comprises 30 students with a healthy student-teacher ratio 4.3:1. There is a close and intimate relationship between the teachers and the taught.
The library now houses more than 8,000 titles. All authoritative titles on Indian and International Laws relevant to LL.B students are present. Books are acquired not only on traditional fields of law. Emerging areas such as Cyber Law, Intellectual property Law have been given special attention.
Its rich reference collection includes Halsbury’s Laws of India, Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice, Essay in classical and Modern Hindu Law, Agricultural system in India, Labor Management and Industrial elations, The Challenge of Social Justice etc.
Library subscribes National and international 15 journals like Modern Review, Supreme Court Cases, All India Report, Harvard Review etc.
Lending – Library lends 4 books to students and 30 books to faculty members for their home use.
READING ROOM :
Success in legal profession largely depends on the proper use of sources of legal information. Keeping it in mind, a well organized reading room with a balanced collection of Reference and legal documents is open for the student. Where they get training from the library to become familiar with the arrangement of information contained in the special type of legal documents like digests, table of cases, indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, conversion tables, citations etc.
